I like to think that my work is a link between the conscious and the sub-conscious. What I am trying to do is to create an original visual language , using paint and texture, that expresses emotion and various abstract concepts. Mindscapes. Or ,mapping the sub-conscious.
I draw my inspiration from symbols , literature, music and life.

Anju is a U.S. Citizen of Indian origin. She was born in 1961 in Jaipur, India. a self taught artist, she has been painting since the past twenty five years.

Since then she has developed a visual language which is very personal and universal at the same time. Her work seeks to convey the very network which weaves the workings of tne human mind into a collective subconscious, where all identities overlap or merge but when under pressure surface as solid blocks of violent egoistic outbursts.
As an artist she shoulders her responsibility by trying to find the link between the mysterious and the apparent, the unknown and the known, the Godly and the human. As the boundaries tend to blur her work takes on an ineffable quality.

I often create paintings or graphics that I refer to as prayer paintings, they are created at a time where i feel those around me that i care about need a little extra positive thought and energy going their way. Its my way of spending sometime working on these pieces with them in mind and this is my way of praying. On this particular day my brothers who own a construction company were working on a job that was a little tricky about 60 feet up in the air on a scaffold that i would not let a bird stand on.....get my drift? No worries all went well, power of prayer.

Inspired partly by the Duke of Hamilton's dog kennels in Hamilton, near Glasgow, Scotland. This guy was seriously wealthy, the Bill Gates of the 18th century (except that Gates at least earnt his money), and his hunting dogs had more space than most families of the period. Ironically, only the kennels remain of the former glories of the house- although they have made a very nice country park from the grounds, that all can enjoy. I translated this feeling into my mythological landscape of Estoban, with the promise of his great journey stretching out into the future.

Incredible watercolors and landscapes i have never seen before was my first impression of iain's creations. Our paths crossed i guess about 8 months ago over at the artwanted gallery's. Please visit and see for yourself this wonderful artist from scotland. Gregory Gallo

Dave Matke is an outsider artist active in the Silver Lake community. He organized the 2004 Silver Lake Art Collective Art Start, participated in the annual Art Tour, and has supported local artists with his participation in community shows and events. His work has been shown in galleries throughout the East side, and graces the homes of several local musicians and artists. Sociologist of art Chelsea Starr, Ph.D. has called his work "simultaneously naive and sophisticated, bursting with mythological, historical, spiritual, and anthropological symbolic vocabulary." His innovative use of clay, wood, and acrylic in mixed media pieces shows versatility and the drive to create with whatever medium is available. Lovingly placing sacred objects in a trans-cultural folk mileu, his art shows undercurrents of androgyny, struggle, and contemplation. Matke's philosophy of art, in his own words, is "a wordless truth that is drawn, painted, or carved. It is ouija board and life raft, revealing to me where to fight, and where to refrain from fighting."

My paintings are created using acrylic spray enamel on the obverse side of clear co-polyester panels--PETG. They are "obverse" paintings, rather than "reverse" paintings, in that they are not the product of a backward, formulaic process, but rather the result of a creative "dialogue," action and reaction, generated to be viewed through the clear surface. Working from behind is not the equivalent of working in reverse.

Today is a blazen raven day, here in new york and im sure on the entire east coast we are getting hammered with wind and rain, it's dark out there folks but inside the flares of orion are tumbling in a creative frenzy, driven by the spirit of crow. The original photo was taken by a friend and affiliate of mine sandy perle as well as the petroglyph rock you see superimposed in the background. I just put all the pieces together.

“I tend to work mostly with wood we turners refer to as ‘Rescued Wood’ that is, wood from trees downed by storm or disease. My objective as an artist working in wood is to create forms that are pleasing to look at---smooth flowing lines which are graceful and balanced. A successful form in concert with the energy released by a beautiful piece of wood can be a joy to gaze upon. When successful, the finished vessel creates a feeling in the viewer similar to the satisfaction one gets when watching a log burn in the fireplace, or waves breaking upon the beach.”

“More often than not, the wood dictates the shape or form that I will turn,” Wicks says, “a lovely cherry burl almost screams to be shaped into a spherical hollow form with its faults and wormholes left intact. My goal is to share expose the wood’s energy so the viewer will be moved upon seeing a space enclosed by a thin wall of shaped wood.”

“To paraphrase a famed turner I met years ago, “I don’t create beauty, I merely uncover it.”

Engraved in Stone
This 18 inch high piece of heavy olive green polish crystal was created for my mother loretta and represents her chosen spiritual animal the giraffe. The amazing thing about engraving good glass like this lead crystal is that it makes the most beautiful whistling sounds when the compressed air and sand is engraving the surface.
It is a very memorable creative moment. I welcome the opportunity to create for you.

This painting was part of a series painted in the early years of the 90's. They were special days. A partner and I owned a commercial art studio in new york city and we had a great crew of 6. Our studio was a nice big loft with one half devoted to screenprint and textile designs for the garment industry and the other half was where I did all my painting.
This painting called Bird in the Hand reflects the ongoing changes "yet" consistencies that we witness in nature everyday.
The original is 42 inches square and is done in acrylics on stretched canvas with a beautiful black wood frame.
It is available for someones collection and direct contact with the artist is the way to do it.

Without a doubt for me one of the most amazing and versatile artists in the field today. This amazing woman paints with the fury of a powerful wind and draws and sketches like the soft wisps of dancing light on a morning lake. It is incredible to see such diversity and devotion from one person as she.
I had the unfortunate job of choosing just one painting to represent her here, it was the first time in our relationship that she was this terrible to me.
It is from a huge collection of recently painted works and is a must see.
We all need to help find this dynamo a sponsor so she can spend every waking moment doing nothing but painting with an unlimited supply of canvas and paint. Thats the bottom line.

When I saw nefera's portraits for the very first time in february 2005 I was stopped in my tracks by one of the most unique visual ways of projecting people, then thru correspondence and sharing of ideas and art it went to the next level and even more overwhelming to me was the way that all these people deeply mean something to her and it shines in every portrait she has done to date. Her and her husband KJ live in france and like to travel.

Hand Cut and Engraved Glass and Stones

Engraved in Stone
My brother Christopher recently invested in stone engraving equipment to enhance his Gallo Construction Masonry enterprise. He built a nice little barn and moved in the best equipment money can by and "yes" gave yours truly redboy a new sandbox to play in! The vase above was the first that i did. I use a rubber mask and cover the entire vase in this protective matt. Then with an x-acto knife I cut out my design and remove the areas that I want to expose to the air blasted sand that frosts the glass itself. It's a lot of fun and perhaps the best part is for last when you peel off the matt to reveal the finished piece! Please visit our site above to see more and to see stone engraved pieces also.
